Those wonderful artists and artisans are at it again-preparing their studios for the San Benito County Open Studios Tour. Each year they welcome folks into their workshops where they display lovely art pieces. This year's event will be held Saturday, April 16th and Sunday, April 17th beginning at 10:00 a.m., ending at 4:00 p.m. It is a once a year opportunity and privilege to poke your nose into various artist's studios, ask questions and observe demonstrations of the actual artistic process. You'll enjoy visiting Aromas, just a short drive on Hwy 129 from Watsonville. From Prunedale or Gilroy, take Hwy 101 to 129 and the Rogge Lane turn-off. When you arrive in Aromas, look for Open Studios signs and 331 Carpenteria where tour maps will be available.

Aromas Hills Artisans include; Steven Snyder-vibrant local landscape photography printed on canvas; Louise Coombes-quilts and quilted items; Jennifer Colby-innovative paintings and prints in garden studio; Linda Bjornson-original designs in stained glass; Jane Rekedal-functional and sculptural stoneware and porcelain ceramics; Gail Mutoza-beautiful, unique silver and mixed metals jewelry

Moving south to San Juan Bautista, you will have four studios to visit. Darlene Boyd-sculpture and painting. The Aimee June Winery-quality wines/handcrafted value; Norman Scott-watercolors of landscapes, buildings/structures and cartoons; Gayle Sleznick-original watercolor landscapes, mixed-media abstracts, drawings, cards.

Hollister has thirteen incredible artists: Pat Zuniga-colorful oils/watercolors of the local scenery; Dale Yarmuth-watercolor painting with pen and ink details; Janeice Van Loon-hand-built burnished ceramics, painted with fire; Gloria Sipes-landscapes in oil; Kathleen Sheridan-oil paintings, illustrations and miscellaneous crafts; Barbara Scott-watercolors of people, places and nature; Georgia Pack-mixed-media paintings, inspired by the natural world; Francene Markle-watercolor/oil, California inspired en plein air; Steeve Loos-digital landscape and street photography; Shannon Grissom-paintings inspired by the color of music; Kent Child-ceramics; functional stoneware/porcelain, natural ash glazes; Bernadine Belaski-McGee-color and black and white photography

Taking the self-guided tour of Hollister, San Juan Batista and Aromas is very simple once you have a map. The little town of Aromas sits at the corners of three counties (Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito) and can be reached from Highway 1 or 101 by taking Highway 129. The turnoff at Rogge Lane will bring you right into town. Look for the Open Studio signs and remember, free maps of the tour will be available at 331 Carpenteria.  for more information at 831-636-2787.
