California's Blue Economy is a $50 Billion dollar+ industry. Today, Marine Science directly effects the 'Blue Economy' in various business and government sectors such as offshore oil and gas production, national defense, seafloor exploration, communications, renewable energy and fisheries to name a few.

For many years and, in particular since its designation in 1992 as a National Marine Sanctuary, the Monterey Bay has led California's 'blue economy'. The Monterey Bay region has over 30 different Marine Science organizations operating as research labs, educational & research forums, testing and laboratory facilities, marine technology related development projects and other research and development disciplines.

The Monterey Bay marine science community has become a global leader in such sectors as abalone farming, aquaculture, kelp farms, climate change, sea level rise research and water quality to name just a few, in addition to 'breakthrough' marine technology and services

Additionally, the major issues challenging our global environment involving climate change, sea level rise and water quality have further elevated the Monterey Bay Marine Science community into the forefront of these global issues and is now ready for successful bilateral trade and investment from interests throughout the world

This is the 4th conference on the Brand Monterey Bay (BMB) program featuring a leading industry in the Monterey Bay region and Congressman Sam Farr will give a special presentation about the Monterey Bay marine science community and some of the challenges and opportunities the region faces as a world leader in this sector.

A special afternoon session will feature interactive Q & A and discussion between the conference attendees and the top public and private sector trade promotion service professionals in California who provide trade financing for exports as well as marketing, legal, logistic, advocacy and global trade educational services.

The event is produced by the Monterey Bay International Trade Association (MBITA) and TradePort.org. We also give special thanks to the Monterey Bay Crescent Ocean Research Consortium (MBCORC) for their technical advice and the new Brand Monterey Bay (BMB) program who are co-organizers for this event.
