     First Night Monterey festivities are almost upon us. On Thursday, Dec. 31, historic downtown Monterey will be filled with an array of art, music and dance events, as well as art installation, and interactive art activities. Are you planning to partake in the fun? We have put together a guide to everything you need to know about First Night Monterey 2016. Schedule of events: (Please note: This is only a sampling of the events for First Night Monterey. A full schedule of events, along with information on button sale locations and details on each performance, is available at www.firstnightmonterey.org and will be inserted into the Monterey County Weekly Dec. 24, 2015 edition.

    Opening Ceremony - Colton Lawn - Site 1: Colton Lawn 3:00 PM
    The opening of our 23rd Celebration begins with the beat of many drums from traditional to the recycled! Join us as the drummers call to us to begin the Celebration! Bringing us together as we open First Night Monterey 2016! Please join us on Pacific Street at Colton Lawn.

    Kids’ Night Out! The First Act
    For the most creative New Year’s Eve you will have with your family! Kick-off at Colton Lawn on Pacific Street at 3:00 p.m. culminating with the Twilight Procession at 5:30 p.m. on Alvarado Street from Franklin to Pearl serving as the kids’ Finale! Make sure to have your FNM button for admission to all the fun! Please refer to the afternoon and evening grids to plan your New Year’s Eve and participate in all the fun!

    A Park Avenue Studio of Bellydance (DA/WM)  - Site 8: Masonic Lodge 9:30 – 10:00, 10:15 – 11:00
    Classic Middle–Eastern Belly Dance with an American flair. Show concludes with audience participation.

    Abdoulaye Diallo & Tam Tam Sacrée – CSUMB Creates! (WM/DA) - Site 13: MIIS-McGowan 6:15 – 6:45, Site 20: Alvarado Street/Wells Fargo Stage 7:15 – 7:45 - Master drummer Abdoulaye Diallo, a native of Senegal, will lead his multicultural performance group in playing traditional West African rhythms guaranteed to lift your spirit and get you moving!

    Anne & Pete Sibley (FK/RCH)  - Site 5: City Council Chambers 6:15 – 6:45, 7:00 – 7:30, 7:45 – 8:15
    With two voices joined in harmony, a guitar and a banjo, Anne and Pete Sibley sing bluegrass. Their music had them performing on famed Stages from NYC's Town Hall to Washington's Kennedy Center and from festival stages such as North Carolina's Merlfest to Colorado's Rockgrass.

    Ash Dance – Groove Like Bollywood! (DA/CH) - Site 14: Alvarado Street Galleria 4:00 – 4:30, 4:45 – 5:15
    The Ash Dance group brings the glamour and spectacular dancing of India's favorite Bollywood movies to the streets of Monterey.

    Best Buy Presents Just Dance! Video Game (DA/CH) - Site 17: Alvarado Street/Best Buy Stage 6:45 – 9:30 - Step to the beat and get into the rhythm as you play the Just Dance video game! From Frozen's Let It Go and Katy Perry tracks, to One Direction and Marvin Gaye, there’s something for everyone.

    Black Irish Band (FK/WM) - Site 18: Golden State Theater 6:30 – 7:00, 7:15 – 7:45, 8:00 – 8:30
    The famed Black Irish Band, together for 26 years, specializes in Irish and Italian songs plus early American, maritime, Scottish, African American, Hispanic, and other multicultural music.

    Blues At Eleven (JZ/RCH) FINALE BAND  - Site 18: Golden State Theatre 9:15 – 10:00, 10:15 – 10:45, 11:15 – 12:00 - Blues at Eleven’s eclectic mix of blues, rock, funk, and jazz, will ignite First Nighters with the best of the blues! Covering media greats, Etta James and New Orleans, join this past winner of the best of blues festival in Monterey!! Join us at 11:15 for a Monterey Blues New Year’s Eve finale all the way to 2016!!!

    The BlueNotables (JZ) - Site 5: City Council Chambers 8:30 – 9:00, 9:15 – 9:45, 10:00 – 10:30
    The BlueNotables is a new a cappella vocal jazz ensemble of eight professional, well–known area vocalists and music educators who combine their talents to sing popular Standards in 7–8 part harmony.

    CALPULLI YAOCUAUHTLI  - Site 1: Colton Pacifc St. Stage 3:30 – 4:00, 4:15-4:45
    Yaocuauhtli Danza is a cultural Aztec dance troupe from Salinas that continues the tradition of the dance and crafts of the Aztec people.

    Carmel Academy of Performing Arts – Team CAPA (DA/CH) - Site 8: Masonic Lodge St. 7:15 – 7:45
    The competitive, award winning Team CAPA has dancers from the ages of 4 to 17 years. The dancers train in several styles including jazz, tap, ballet, hip–hop, and much more.

    Casa di Mansa (WM/DA) - Site 20: Alvarado Street/Wells Fargo Stage 8:00 – 8:30, 8:45 – 9:15
    This professional drumming and dance group celebrates the culture of Senegal, bringing to life the African folk song played on wolof and sabar drums, and dance traditions from Casamance in southern Senegal.

    The Coffis Brothers and the Mountain Men (JZ/RCH) FINALE BAND - Site 16: Alvarado St. Rabobank 9:15 – 9:45, 10:00 – 10:30, 11:15 - Midnight - Rootsy rock n’ roll band born and raised in the Santa Cruz Mountains, this band’s blend of folk, blues, R&B and straight ahead rock are evidence of an upbringing spent listening to all of the right records.

    CSUMB Creates! Music and Dance (DA/WM/JZ) - Site 13: MIIS-McGowan Building
    Enjoy performances by California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) students, staff and alumni.
    6:15 – 6:45 Abdoulaye Diallo & Tam Tam Sacrée, a multicultural performance group playing traditional West African rhythms.
    7:00 – 7:30, 7:45 – 8:15 LaTanya and Friends want you to participate! Kids and adults of all ages learn multicultural songs and movement.
    8:45 – 9:15, 9:30 – 10:00 CSUMB student guitarists led by Music and Performing Art (MPA) student Timothy Patchin with youth from Guitars not Guns playing American Standards.

    First Night Monterey will continue rain or shine so be sure to come prepared. You will want to dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes. Get the most out of your First Night visit by planning ahead! Decide what specific events you want to attend ahead of time. The First Night website has a complete schedule which you can view at www.firstnightmonterey.org. An app for your phone featuring listings of First Night performances, arts exhibits and their locations is also available.         Tickets:

         $20 for adults and $12 for youth; admission is free for children 5 and under.
        On the day of First Night the admission buttons are $22 for adult and $15 for youth.
        Special family packs are for sale online at www.firstnightmonterey.org with a $5.00 savings.
