Are Your Employees Exempt? Think Again.

New Department of Labor Regulations May Change Your Mind

Eggs & Issues is a gathering of interested persons from business, professions, government and the not-for-profit sector that are concerned about key issues affecting the economic health of Monterey County and are looking for solutions.   Please join us on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 7:30 to 9:15 a.m at Bayonet & Blackhorse Grill for our next breakfast highlighting an issue of critical import to all employers and their employees.

On May 18, 2016, President Obama and Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez announced the publication of the Department of Labor’s final rule updating federal overtime regulations, which will automatically extend overtime pay protections to over 4 million workers within the first year of implementation.  California businesses employing salaried workers must be prepared for the new law in order to ensure compliance and avoid the substantial penalties and potential litigation for noncompliance.  Dennis G. McCarthy and Sharilyn Payne of MCBC member Fenton & Keller  will lead our discussion of these issues.
