Attendees can stroll through the Avenue of Clans, visit one of the Clan tents and trace their ancestry. There will be lots of fun special events planned for the wee ones at the Children's Games, too. Over 50 vendors offering tasty British and Scottish food and drink, and unique Scottish and Irish crafts, jewelry, clothing, and music will be enjoyed by all. This year, on Sunday, the Festival will again feature a very special “Salute to the Irish” that will include Irish entertainment and Irish Dancing.

Idea2Venture™ is an intensive entrepreneurial training program targeted at early stage ventures in the Monterey Bay region looking to launch new ideas and technologies to market. Idea2Venture’s practical, hands-on training format promotes rapid venture/idea development, refines the idea, and then artfully communicates the offering through concise writing, presentation and self-promotion. The unique action-learning process utilizes an interdisciplinary roundtable framework that cultivates real-time solutions, teamwork and networking.

It is being offered by the Monterey County Business Council and the Institute for Innovation and Economic Development, in conjunction with the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Fresno State. Cost is $495, with limited enrollment.

"This is the breakthrough that we need to bring creative talent and thoughts to the forefront of business creation and job development," says MCBC President Mary Ann Leffel.

The Problem

Entrepreneurs starting a new venture face tremendous uncertainty and complexity. Successfully commercializing a new venture requires a mastery of idea development skills and tools. "The idea is only 5 percent of it," says Prashant Joshi, an expert who helps entrepreneurs, start-ups, inventors and others commercialize their concepts. "It's the execution that's critical."

Joshi, Program Director for Technology Commercialization at the Lyles Center, is among the professional trainers who will share their expertise during Idea2Venture™. He has worked with hundreds of individuals and teams on everything from intellectual property protection to strategy and has seen the pitfalls that can derail even the most promising of ventures: Underdeveloped ideas, emotion-driven decisions, and a lack of planning or concrete data.

How Idea2Venture™ can help

Previously, these skills could only be learned through starting a venture and “learning by doing.” Now, with Idea2Venture™, instructors can assist attendees with each stage of the idea development process. Each week, the course is focused on developing the entrepreneur’s idea through learning of skills in a chronological sequence of startup actions. Among the issues to be covered in this intensive eight-session program are idea feasibility, different forms of business ownership, financing, licensing and reporting requirements, business and marketing plans, exit strategy and intellectual property.

The end game is to launch ambitious fast-growth companies, innovative products, and technologies that make a dynamic and lasting economic change in the Monterey Bay region. "Our motivation," Joshi says, "is to see businesses succeed.”

Program Schedule & Application

Idea2Venture's eight training sessions run from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, except for a Saturday, April 28th public lecture (8 a.m. to noon) and the June 12th session for Final Draft Reviews and Presentation Practice (5 to 10 p.m.). The program culminates in a graduation event on June 26th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., which is open to the public.

Now celebrating its 19th year, the Carmel Art Festival is a public benefit event held to educate and inspire people of all ages about the visual arts. In 2012, the Festival will once again include the Plein Air and Sculpture-in-the-Park events, as well as a Quick Draw by the winning artists, and Kids Art Day. Many galleries in Carmel-by-the-Sea schedule their own shows, receptions and painting demonstrations to coincide with the Carmel Art Festival. Monterey Bay Employers to Vie For "Best Places To Work" Awards Spring 2012

Come August 24th, six companies will have bragging rights. That is when the Monterey County Business Council will present awards to the "Best Places To Work" in Monterey County. More than 75 companies representing private, enterprise, nonprofit, and public / government organizations are expected to participate in the project.

Now, more than ever, it is critical for employers to attract and retain top quality, loyal employees. Besides a chance to boast, the awards are an opportunity to help employers identify and focus on the proven elements of what is involved to be a great place to work.

Personnel Dynamics Consulting of Florida designed the 40-question survey used to identify the Best Places To Work." Personnel Dynamics will analyze the data and calculate the turnover rates, growth percentages, promotion percentages, and benefit packages for each company. A total of 37 different measurements are analyzed to determine the winners. Each company will receive a personalized report detailing how they compared with other companies in the county and suggestions for improving the work environment.

Upon completion of the course, each participant will be presented with a Finisher’s T-Shirt on the way to the post-party, where you will get to relax with massages from Aquablue Skin and Body Spa, and rock out to live music from The Wild Turkeys! Lunch will be provided by Tacos Pacheco Taqueria, Portobello’s and the Salad Shoppe, along with local wine and beer. It will be a great day in the Santa Lucia Highlands to enjoy fitness, beautiful vineyards, family, friends and fun…get signed up today!

Walker Registration is easy! You only have to raise a minimum of $100 to participate. Raising the entry fee is simple by encouraging family, friends, or colleagues to support your efforts. Discounted walker registration is available for teams of six or more. Be our highest fundraiser and go home with an Apple iPad2. Awards will also be presented to teams with the most funds raised, team spirit, and best costumes. All donations are tax deductible (Tax ID #31-1790962).

If you want to invite family and friends to cheer you on and enjoy the post-party activities, they can purchase a spectator ticket for $30.
